Helpful Tips
Almost all companies request a video introducing yourself to ESL learners.
The aim of the self-intro video is to let possible future students know more about you, your areas of expertise, the way you talk, your accent and not only!
Some TECHNICAL ISSUES need to be taken into consideration when recording your self-intro video:
GOOD LIGHTING
Use natural daylight or powerful lamp lighting from the front.
Make sure your face is evenly lit and doesn’t have unwanted shadows.
You can try shooting with a window behind your camera and the light shining on your face.
CLEAR SOUND
Use quiet surroundings and speak in a clear voice.
Make sure you are close enough to the microphone.
Avoid any background noise (wind, traffic, kids playing, etc…).
BACKGROUND
No clutter behind you or moving objects/people/pets etc.
Choose a clean/light wall or any light and tidy area of your Office/study room or classroom
Record in Landscape, not portrait
WHAT TO SAY IN THE VIDEO?
Creating a script and practicing will help you speak more naturally and relaxed.
Make sure you introduce yourself (name, the languages you speak, your work experience and credentials.
You can mention your teaching style to help your potential students Picture what learning with you would be like.
Smiling and being authentic are always good practices.
Try to be concise. A few minutes are more than enough to introduce yourself and share your clear message.
UPLOADING THE VIDEO
Some companies are asking for your YouTube video link.
Other companies provide you with the option to upload your video directly on their platform.
Some companies want an audio sample (30 sec minimum) of you speaking in English
All companies have online support and assist you with the application process in case you might need further support.
In case you are considering teaching English online, which company are you going to apply first to?
Do you know other companies that hire 𝐍𝐨𝐧-𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐄𝐧𝐠𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐡 𝐓𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐫?
Your comments would be more than welcomed.
You never know who you can help or inspire.
